“He is, without doubt, one of the best Twenty20 batsmen in the world.”
This is how David Hussey is described by Victorian, Melbourne Stars and Delhi Daredevils coach, Greg Shipperd. With his reputation as one of the best T20 cricketers in the world, David or ‘Bomber’ as he is known around team mates, is a match winner with both the bat and ball. Not only has his skill and class seen David a staple in the Victorian and Australian cricket teams but, he is one of the highest paid international players in the lucrative Indian Premier League T20 competition, for the Kings XI Punjab.
During the summer, David returns home to Melbourne to star for the Melbourne Stars in the KFC T20 Big Bash League. In the inaugural BBL season in 2011/12, David clocked up 243 runs, 8 wickets and 6 catches to be awarded the ‘Player of the League’ for BBL|01.
Remarkably, he hit his eighth Big Bash League half century in just the second game of BBL|03, against the Sydney Sixers after taking a wicket in the only over he bowled. And 2014/15 stats speak for themselves when it comes to his all-round ability – he recorded the fifth highest batting average, at 49.67, as well as a great bowling strike rate of 12.00. The spinner certainly proved how dangerous he can be, allowing only 29 runs to be scored in return for the three wickets he claimed – one in each of the three games he bowled in.
David will captain the Stars in the BBL|05 season.
David is one of the most well respected players in Australian cricket and describes cricket as “the game I love. The game that always tests you, whether it’s a mental or physical test or it’s simply testing your skill set.”
Having travelled the world playing cricket, David makes the most of his time at home with wife Kristy and two children Jocelyn and Sebastian, often at the local park or holidaying in sunny Queensland.
