David Hussey named Melbourne Stars captain

The Melbourne Stars announced David Hussey will take the reigns as captain of the men’s team for BBL|05 following Michael Clarke’s decision to step aside this year.

Melbourne Stars President Eddie McGuire today paid tribute to the new captain saying, “David Hussey is an established leader at the Melbourne Stars, respected by the players, the coaching staff and the Board.

“The Club is thrilled that David has accepted the captaincy role for BBL|05 and we look forward to an exciting season ahead,” said McGuire.

Speaking at a Melbourne Stars captains’ call with fellow captain Meg Lanning, David Hussey said he was nervous yet excited about his new role.

“I’m nervous because we need to go one step further than last year and make a final, and look to win some silverware. But we’ve got a team full of talent and I’m excited to work with the boys to achieve that goal.

“I can’t wait to get started. I’m really looking forward to working with Stephen Fleming and Trent Woodhill; I think they’re fantastic cricket minds and cricket people to have at the Club,” said Hussey. Read more of the Melbourne Stars media release.
