The mass participation element of the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Race, the Swisse People’s Ride, has been a great success story. Popular with recreational cyclists from around Australia and internationally, the ride continues to grow each year.
One of its unique features is each entrant’s opportunity to ride alongside Australia’s only Tour de France winner, and since 2016 Cadel has thoroughly enjoyed making the stunning journey from Geelong, through his home town of Barwon Heads, out to the start of the Great Ocean Road and back again, with thousands of like-minded bike riders.
Recognising the strong synergies between Cadel’s passion for wellness and its own mission for a healthier and happier community, Signature Sport approached another great Australian success story, Swisse, to become naming rights partner of Cadel’s People’s Ride.
With the Geelong waterfront as the backdrop amid the dawn tranquillity, some 3,500 highly motivated and engaged amateur cyclists turned over their first pedal strokes to commence an unforgettable 2017 Swisse People’s Ride. A sea of red motion beautifully contrasted against the blue of the ocean and the peloton clearly enjoyed every kilometre of the picturesque 65km and 111km courses – well, nearly every kilometre!
At the end of their long journey, riders were welcomed back into Geelong’s Steampacket Gardens by a smiling Swisse team, offering much welcomed smoothies, protein shakes and magnesium, plus a chill-out space to recover and relax. As part of the sponsorship, lucky competition winners enjoyed VIP hospitality and ‘hot laps’ in official race convoy cars during the Elite Men’s Race, while later in the year two valued trade customers enjoyed the experience of a lifetime: meeting Cadel for lunch and a bike ride around stunning Lake Como.
Signature Sport is continuing to drive our vision for the Swisse People’s Ride: to make the ride the biggest and best of its kind in Australia; the ride that features both champions of the sport and champions of the community; the ride to celebrate living healthy and active lifestyles; to celebrate the legacy of Cadel Evans; to experience the beauty of an iconic region of Australia; and to simply try and reach our personal best.
